आई आजकाल चुप असते ( Mother Is Quiet Nowadays )
मुलं जन्माला आल्यावर आई ही पदवी मिळाली.
त्यांचे लाड पुरवता पुरवता ती नाही थकली.
त्यांना काय हवे काय नको ते बघताना ती स्वतःला विसरली,
बोलायला शिकवले, शब्दांचे अर्थ सांगितले.
तोंडातून शब्द निघण्या आधी त्यांच्या हातावर हवे ती वस्तु ठेवली.

मुले मोठी झाली, कमवू लागली.
पूर्वी आईने दिलेल्या चार आण्याचा शाळेचा डब्बा ही पोट भरून जायचा.
पण आता वय वाढलं, गरजा वाढल्या.
आईचं भरमसाठ प्रेम कमी ही थोडं वाटू लागलं.

जोडीदार शोधला, संसार सुरू झाला.

मुलं जेव्हा मोबाइल वापरायला लागली,
आई साठी वेळ पहिल्या पेक्षा ही कमी पडू लागला.
ती आता माझ्या कडे बोलतील,
माझ्या जवळ येतील,
ही हुरहूर मात्र नकळत नाहीशी झाली.

मुलांबरोबरचा संवाद,
एखाद्याच्या भूत काळा सारखा मागे राहिला.
आता काय ती एखादे काम शोधते,
आणि रमून जाण्याच्या प्रयत्नात असते,
आई आजकाल चुप असते.

मुलीचं लग्न थाटात लावून दिले,
जावयाला मुला सारखे प्रेम दिले.
पण दोघे ही संसारात इतके रमले,
भान ना दोघानाही कशाचे राहिले.

आई दोघांचा संसार हसत मुखाने पहाते,
त्यांच्या आनंदात आनंदी राहते,
स्वतःचे औषध संपलंय हे सुद्धा ती कळून देत नसते.
आई आजकाल चुप असते.

मुलगी लोळते ऐश्वर्यात,

रमते तिच्या सुखी संसारात.
आई ही आपल्या सारखी सुखात आहे असं ती गृहीत ही धरते.
पण नेहमी प्रमाणे आई आपलं दुःख लपवत असते.
आई आजकाल चुप असते.

मुले असतात कामात गुंग.
त्यांना काय हवं, काय नको,
ते आज ही ती आवर्जून पहाते.
पण स्वतःच्या इच्छा मात्र ती दाबूनच टाकते.
आई आजकाल चुप असते.

लहानपणी साधा कप तुटला,
तरी कान पकडून तिची माफी मागायचो.
आता काय, तिचं मन वारंवार तुटलं तरी,
तिच्या कडे, तिच्या मनाकडे कान डोळा करतो.
आई काही तशी तक्रार करत नसते.
कारण आई आजकाल चुप असते.

मुलांना थोडा जरी त्रास झाला,

तरी तिची रात्री ची झोप नाहीशी होते.
तिला मात्र सुखाची झोप लागते की नाही,
हे पाहायला वेळच कुठे असतो, नाही?
पण तरी सुद्धा ती वाईट वाटून घेत नसते.
आई आजकाल चुप असते.

मुलगी जाते परदेशी फिरायला जावया सोबत.
तुला हे घेऊन येऊ, तुला ते घेऊन येऊ,
ह्याची हमी देते.
पण तुला ही सोबत घेऊन जाऊ,
हे आश्वासन ती कधीच देत नसते.

आईला ही जग पाहायचं असतं,
चार भिंती बाहेर केव्हातरी पडायचं असतं.
ज्या तान्ह्या मुलांना मोठे केले,
त्यांच्या सोबत काही क्षण घालवायचं मन असतं.
पण आई काय, तेव्हाही शुभेच्छा देते.
काय करणार, आई आजकाल चुप असते.

गरज असताना आई वडील,
नातवंडाला आईकडे सोपवून जायचे.
त्या नातवंडाला पाहायला,
तिचं मन आज आसुसलेलं असतं.
नातू मोठा झाला, शिकून कमवायला लागला.
हे मात्र तो विसरून गेला की,
लाहानपणी ह्या आजीच्या कुशीनेच,
आई आणि वडील दोघांची ऊब दिली होती.
जेव्हा आई वडील पैसे कमवत होते,
हीच आजी तिच्या तोंडचा घास प्रेमाने भरवीत होती.

पण आजी मात्र आज ही तेवढंच प्रेम ओतत असते.
नातवंडावर दूरून आशीर्वादाचा वर्षाव करत असते.
बोलायचं खूप असतं पण काय करणार,
कारण आई आजकाल चुप असते.

नको देखावा करू मदर्स डे ल आई चे पाय धुवून,
तिला फूल आणि भेटवस्तू देऊन.
द्यायचे असेल तर तिला थोडा वेळ द्या,
मायेचे दोन शब्द बोला,
प्रेमाने जवळ घेऊन तिला विचारा,
तू कशी आहेस?
तुला काय हवं का?

शक्यतो तिच्या मनातले समजून घ्या,
कारण ती बोलणार नाही, मागणार नाही.
घरात चारजण असून ही, ती आजकाल एकटीच असते.
आई आजकाल चुप असते.
