Letters To God: Fourth Part

Two months passed since Samiksha joined the hospital. She became well acquainted with the working and every staff of the same. Patients admired her for her caring as well as jovial nature. Most importantly, she developed a close relationship of trust and understanding with Dr. Karan.

They argued but came to a common conclusion at times. The hospital had a tradition of visiting a rural area once a year and setting up a well equipped medical camp. A batch of doctors and nurses were all set to visit the area in that week. Samiksha was one of them and she was very excited for the same.

“Maria, please send Samiksha here.” Karan dialed Maria’s cabin and spoke. “But Sir, she has gone for the social service campaign for two days.”
“OH yes. I forgot. In fact, I wrote her name in the list of visiting teams. Sorry to bother you.”

Karan smiled at himself as he was used to work with Samiksha. In spite of their difference of opinions, he felt a sort of bond with her. She was the first person to question him and his analysis. Unlike others, she was different, or special. Karan smiled again and got up for his routine rounds.

At the campaign,

Samiksha met a family consisting of man, his wife and son. While talking to them she discovered they lost their only son last year. Currently the daughter was in college.

“It’s sad to hear. What happened?”
“He was suffering from a chronic pain. We got him operated also. But he did not survive. In fact, a doctor from your hospital itself had operated on him.”
“Who?”
“Dr. Karan.”

Samiksha at once spoke. “Then you did not do anything against him. How did you leave him? He was responsible for the death of your only son.”
“Do not dare to speak a word against Dr. Karan. He is a God disguised as human.”

Samiksha was at loss of words. Before she could even say a word, the family left from there. The regard and faith people had for him was out of her brain’s receptive power.

Two days passed and Samiksha was back. She resumed her duty and was attending a patient.

“So, you are back.”

Samiksha looked back hearing the familiar voice of Dr. Karan. He stood there, smiling at her.
She returned his smile and completed her work with the patient. When she came out she sat alongside him on a bench. “So, you missed me?”

“What do you think?”
She looked into his eyes and nodded. “I guess yes.”
“I heard people there were super impressed by your way of handling the patients. The locals as well the medical staff were pouring praises on you. I am happy for you.” Karan looked at her with great regard.

She was a bit frail. “Yes. But it was very tiring. I need a break. May I?”
“Sure. You deserve it. Go ahead. I will talk to Maria. She will sanction a leave of two days for you.”
“Two days? One is enough for me.”

“One is my gift to you.

For handling your duty with sincerity and dedication. Go. Get some rest.” Samiksha obeyed him and left at once. She noticed the spark in his eyes when he talked to her.

On emerging out of the hospital, she saw a familiar face. She was the sister of the same boy who had passed away. She remembered how the family from the rural area had reacted on hearing words against Karan. The girl talked with a ward boy and proceeded towards the main entrance of the hospital. “For whom has she come Raghu?” Samiksha asked the ward boy.

“Dr. Karan.”

Walking away with a mirage of thoughts she left the hospital premises.
