Hearing his donor’s name, Hemant Sen was in shock, a fact for which he was unprepared. He tried to get up, but fumbled as he was not in a condition to face this reality. Anurag stopped him and gestured Samiksha to help.
They made Hemant Sen lie down at once. “Dada, are you fine?” Anurag asked him.
Hemant Sen tried to speak,
but the words choked his throat and refused to escape his lips. The nurse entered the room announcing that the surgery was ready to be executed. “Sir, Ms. Poorna is ready. We have given her necessary medications and she is stable.”
“I am coming. Has Dr. Sinha arrived?” He was the one who was going to perform the whole surgery and transfusion. “Yes doctor. He is with Ms. Poorna.”
“Alright then. Dada, I will say only one thing. This won’t be possible without Rex, Poori’s husband. He has performed two duties today. Being an understanding husband and a big hearted son-in-law. We are lucky to have him in our family, Dada.” Anurag left the room leaving Samiksha with Hemant Sen.
“Poori was the most loved child in the three.”
Hemant Sen started speaking diverting Samiksha’s attention to him. “Be it caring for us both or handling her brothers, she has always won hearts. It was my deep desire to marry her in our caste to one of my best pal’s son. When she announced that she had fallen in love sith someone who doesn’t even belong to our religion, I felt my respect and position in the society was at stake.
I forgot,
That I am her father too. Refusing to accept her decision, I was proud of carrying the legacy of my false status in the society and family. Mithila tried to convince me. But she knew somewhere within, that she was wasting her time and words. Finally, when Poori decided to get married with the same boy, I gave her an ultimatum. To choose between us and him.”
Samiksha looked at him with eyes full of tears. Her hand was firmly on his, as he bared his soul to her. She had witnessed the mighty, self-made, arrogant Hemant Sen, as a vulnerable and humble human being.
“I am glad she chose him.”
Saying this he almost broke into tears. She consoled him by moving her hand on his head. “Please don’t stress yourself. Be calm, Dada. Nothing is right in world, than realising where we went wrong in the flow.”
She went home and prayed for her father-in-law. Thanking her Bandhu in her mind, she whispered, “Million thanks, my dear Bandhu, for hearing my prayers. Dugga Dugga. Dada has finally accepted his daughter back.”

Poorna was still unconscious.
After some time, Hemant Sen was taken to the OT. The transfusion was done by the expert Dr. Sinha. By God’s grace, the surgery was successful. Hemant Sen was back in his room, unconscious but repenting, silently in his subconscious mind.
Hours passed. Hemant Sen opened his eyes to find his entire family around him. Mithila was next to him on the chair, her face relaxed. Her eyes were closed chanting prayers. Samiksha was busy arranging fresh flowers in the vase. Karan, Sumitra and Anurag were discussing something in low voice. Mohandas was next to his wife.
His eyes searched for the only three missing people in his family.
“Dada, how are feeling now?” Karan asked him as soon as he saw his father gaining consciousness.
Everyone’s eyes were fixed on Hemant Sen now. He smiled faintly. “Did my Poori leave already? How is she now? Where is she?”
“Relax.” Mithila told him at once. “You are not allowed to get up.”
“Where is Poori?” He again asked helplessly.
“Did you see who is standing behind your bed Dada?” Samiksha asked him with her radiant smile.

Poorna placed her hand gently on Hemant Sen’s forehead.
“Poori,” Hemant Sen pulled her from behind and held her hand near his chest. Tears of joy rolled on his cheeks, seeing his daughter after so many years. Everyone in the room was emotional seeing this much awaited reunion.
“Dada, I am here for you,
always. You have to rest. Please don’t exert yourself.” Poorna wiped his tears and placed her hand on his chest.
“Forgive me, Poori.” Hemant Sen tried to press his palms to say sorry. Poorna stopped him at once. “Dada, your hands are for blessing us all, not for asking forgiveness.”
“Where is my Jamata? He will never forgive me, I know that.”
Poorna smiled and spoke, “He went to lit candles in the church. He and Joy had prayed for you Dada. They went to offer their gratitude.”
The door opened and Rex entered the room with Joy.
Joy ran towards his grandfather.

“See dad, Dada is fine now.” Joy told his father happily. “We all have prayed for his good health. He has to be fine.” Rex replied to his adorable son.
Everyone in the room had their brightest smile on their faces. Rex looked at Poorna with a mutual understanding which they had amongst themselves. She thanked him, God and of course Samiksha, from the bottom of her heart. Her eyes said it all. Joy sat besides his grandfather.
Anurag broke the emotional silence, “I want to say something.” He caught Samiksha by her hand and brought her in the centre of the room. Samiksha was already nervous.
“Thank you, Samiksha.
For making our family complete.” Mithila continued, “I must have done some good deeds in the past to get a daughter-in-law like you.”
Mohandas and Lakshmi’s joy knew no boundaries. Their daughter had made them proud and happy.
Karan looked at Samiksha with an obvious pride. Stealing a sweet glance, he gave her their secret smile. Samiksha blushed and smiled.
“Anurag, when can your Dada come home? After everything that happened in the past few days, now it’s time for some big celebration.” Mithila asked her son with the newly found excitement.
“Within two days. He needs rest Ma, which is not possible at home now. He will play with Joy whole time.” Everyone started laughing.
Back at home after three days, Hemant Sen was inseparable from Joy.
Samiksha welcomed Poorna and her family with pleasure. She had awaited this moment for months.

Sumitra arranged food for everyone. Charu’s joy knew no bounds as Poorna was back with the family. She made her favourite dish for her. The lunch was a grand celebration of the reunion of the family.

The moon shone brightly in the sky, as the happy family rejoiced and finished their dinner later at night. The moon was proud of his moonchild, as always.
Samiksha had vowed to have Poorna with them in the next Durga pooja, which turned true in the coming year.

Years of pain, longing and hatred changed into love, moments of togetherness and care.

Karan and Samiksha thanked God for the blessings He showered on their family. Karan was happy he chose the Moonchild that day. She had not only made his life bright, but also his heart, full of joy.

The End Of The Moonchild.
Stay tuned for the exciting new story coming up, soon.
