The Moonchild: Part 10

The beautiful view stunned Samiksha. White curtains swayed along with the breeze. Plants placed at distances reminded her of her terrace back in her Durgapur home. The soft tinkling sound of the windchime played melodiously in her ears. What took her breath away was the view of the bright shining moon, her Bandhu, right before her eyes. She was speechless.
“Bandhu, we can talk even here. You missed me, right? I missed you, too. We are talking after so long. I was busy in my marriage. See this terrace. So beautiful, isn’t it?” The clouds hovered slowly over the moon, which was a yes to her question. She smiled happily and looked around. “Did you like my new home?”
The moon shone more brightly to answer her question. She blushed and lowered her head.

Mesmerised by the view, she paced slowly on the terrace. She thought, “Maybe this was the surprise Anurag spoke about during the Bidai ceremony. That means Karan has done all this so that I feel at home. He has noticed so many things related to me. I should also look after his smallest of needs.”
“Sami ja.” Sumitra entered the terrace with a broad smile on her face. “So you saw the magical transformation of the terrace?”
“What do you mean?”

“Hmm. Our terrace was not like this, dear.

These curtains, those plants, and the windchimes are all new here. Karan wanted to make sure there was one part of this home that would be similar to yours. So he chose the terrace. And why not? Your favourite is seen from here only, right?”
Samiksha was overwhelmed and hugged Sumitra, who lovingly caressed her head.”
“My Karan is a gem, Samiksha. Even after being a lawyer, he has retained his emotional side.”
“I know Bhabijaa. He thinks a lot for everyone. I am fortunate to have him as my life partner.”

“Yes, that you are, definitely. Now come, let us go inside.” Sumitra and Samiksha came inside the room to find Mithila waiting for them.
“So, you liked your home?’
“Yes, Maa. A lot. I want to meet everyone here. The house help, gardener.”
“Yes, yes, why not. But later. Then you and Karan have to visit your home tomorrow for Dira Gaman to cut off this thread.” She took Samiksha’s hand in hers and pointed at the thread tied to her wrist. Let us have dinner now. During dinner, Karan tried to speak to Samiksha.

When his aunt pulled Samiksha away, he quickly said

Fuppi, I know the Kaal Ratri ritual. I just want to see if my wife is all right here.”
She laughed along with the other women, “She is absolutely fine. Don’t worry about her.” Mithila intervened, “It is fine if he talks to her. Go ahead. She is in that room.”
“Thanks, Maa.” Karan rushed towards the room. He found her, but she was surrounded by other ladies. Suddenly, he noticed Sumitra and called her for help. She brought Samiksha outside and gestured to go. He took her to the terrace by catching her hand. People tried to talk to them in between, but he rushed her towards the terrace.

As soon as they entered the terrace, he looked at her. She smiled and rested her head against his shoulder. He gently placed his hand on her head. The soft breeze touched them, proving its presence around the newly married couple.

“How are you? Are you happy? Do you like your new home? And the terrace? I wanted to …”
Shhh… Samiksha silenced his troubled mind and placed her hand over his chest.

“What does your heart say?”

“Hmm. But I wish to hear it from you.”
She giggled sweetly and continued,
“Well, in that case, I am very much fine and am happy. I loved mine- I mean our home. Saying anything about the terrace is impossible because words will fall short. Did you get all your answers?”
He nodded and tightened his hug, making her feel safe and loved in this new place. His phone rang, intruding on their beautiful moment. It was Mithila. After speaking to her, Karan said to Samiksha,
“We are needed down. Let us go. And don’t worry. Only Kaal Ratri and Dira Gaman are in between. After that …” Samiksha tapped him playfully on his hand and blushed, “Let us go down.”

The next day, Karan and Samiksha left for Durgapur for the Dira Gaman ritual. Mohandas and Lakshmi welcomed them warmly.
“How is your new home, Sami? And everyone there?” Lakshmi and Kalyani eagerly asked Samiksha once they were in the kitchen. Samiksha’s smile said it all. They talked their hearts out, but Samiksha and Karan had to leave soon. After spending some beautiful moments there, both of them went to Kolkata.

The night was unique as it was Samiksha and Karan’s Suhag Raat. Adorned with gold jewellery and dressed in a red saree, Samiksha looked divine as she entered her room. Karan could not take his eyes off her. He made her comfortable with talks and sightseeing. Samiksha was already in love with him. Seeing his care and concern for her made her fall in love with him even more. The night ended with two souls promising each other a lifetime of togetherness and love.
