Part 15 – The Lovers

Karan rang the doorbell with anxiety. As usual, Samiksha had entwined her fingers in Karan’s to assure him all was well. “Why is she taking so long?” Karan questioned her.
“Relax. We are here. She might be busy.” Karan smiled at Samiksha, ensuring himself that all might be well.
And the door opened. Karan first estimated his mom’s mood by observing her facial expressions. He couldn’t figure out much.

“What happened?

Why had you called? Are you OK?” Karan bombarded her with a series of questions.
“I am fine, Karan. Why didn’t you take my call? What were doing?” Rose asked him with a sense of authority.
“Samiksha, you came early from the office today?” Rose asked her.
Samiksha was stunned to see the usual tone of her speech.
“No, Mom, I mean Aunty. Karan was tense about why you might have called, so I came along with him. I am sorry.”
Samiksha did not know what else to say.

“Mom, I was busy. What happened?”
“Nothing. I have a surprise for you,” Rose answered with a hidden smile.
Now, it was becoming difficult for him to guess the suspense.

Maria came out of the inner room.

Karan and Samiksha were at a loss for words to figure out what was happening.
“Mom? How come you are here? Why did you come here?” Samiksha was now worried about the whole scenario.
“You both have a seat first, then we can talk,” Rose told them with a grin.

“We have both decided something for you two, ” she informed them, leaving them with increased anticipation. Karan and Samiksha looked at each other. Their heartbeats were clearly audible in that silent room. In the spur of the moment, a thought crossed their minds—are we together for the last time?

Maria looked at Rose and finally said,
“You both will have to take a break from your work. Wedding rituals have to be performed properly, that’s why.”
“But Aunty,” Karan swallowed his words and realised what he had just heard. A smile appeared on Karan’s lips, and Samiksha got up and hugged her mom. She was in tears of joy and thankfulness to her universe. Karan also embraced his mom with wet eyes, as he had the biggest happiness of his life, Samiksha.

Later,

They all had lunch, and Karan went back to the office along with Samiksha. Rose was very excited about her son’s marriage and didn’t want to leave any stone unturned while preparing for the same. Maria was equally excited about the same. Both sat down and talked their hearts out. It was a miracle that two ladies who weren’t on talking terms till yesterday were chatting quite cordially today.

Back at the office, Karan and Samiksha told Aarun this good news. He hugged Karan and congratulated both of them. After he left the cabin, Karan smiled at Samiksha and pulled her close to him.
“Can we do some work now, Mr. Employer?”
“Hmm, I have employed people for the same.” A wicked smile escaped his lips as he said this.
“In that case, I have to leave at once. I am your employee, Sir.”
He had a broad smile while saying, “Not anymore. Now you are Mrs. Karan Valenti.”

“Not yet”,,

Samiksha pushed him slightly away and teased him.
“Madam, I will be a very demanding husband, mind it.”
“As in?”.
“My first one. As you know, I have a vast business to look after. I need minimum, um.” He counted with fingers and finally spoke,
“Five children to look after it.”
Samiksha burst out into laughter, and he was wondering why.
“May I know the reason for this giggle, baby?”
“Sir, you know how much pain a woman has to go through during childbirth? Back to back, five? In that case, after our fifth kid, I will have to say bye-bye to you, forever, mister.”
Karan kept his finger on her lips and hugged her tight.
“Don’t you again say those words, Samiksha? I don’t want any kids.”
“Karan, I was just joking. Nothing is going to happen to me. Don’t worry,” she said, hugging him tighter.

Their marriage took place with a few people and their friends.

“Good catch, Sammu,” teased Jummy. Karan and Samiksha looked heavenly in their wedding attire.

Rose and Maria blessed their kids and thanked the Almighty for all the happiness they had in their lives. Karan and Samiksha were ready to enjoy their wedding bliss and start a new chapter of their lives.

(After 8 Months. Present Day)

Karan rushed to the hospital after getting a call from Rose. On the way, his restless mind could not refrain from calling her.
“Mom, is Sami alright? When did the labour pains start? She was alright in the morning.”
“Relax, Karan. She is absolutely fine. Maria is here. Jummy is also with us. Don’t worry at all.

And most importantly, we had already admitted her here a day before. So, no worries at all. Relax and come safely,” Rose assured him.

Samiksha had already conceived when they got married, and hence, just after 8 months, a new joy would enter their already beautiful lives. Karan was unmanageable and excited when he got the news of her pregnancy. He took the utmost care of Samiksha during these months. He made sure her most minute wish was also fulfilled. Karan’s priority was getting her ice cream, tamarind, jaggery, and whatever she demanded due to her pregnancy cravings. He did not allow Samiksha to disappear from his sight at all.

After sonography, it was discovered that Samiksha was carrying a triplet. Three beautiful symbols of their pure love were growing in Samiksha’s body. Karan became the most caring husband ever and ensured Samiksha got what she wanted even before the wish was on her lips.
As she had three lives within her, her slightest wish had become his command.

One night, she woke him at 3 a.m.

The 9th month had started, and the due date was nearing. Karan happened to get the best deal of his life to date, but he had to travel abroad for the formalities. At first, he was reluctant to go, but Samiksha persuaded him not to miss this golden chance. With much convincing from her side, he finally agreed to go. But when he was about to return, Rose called and informed him that Samiksha had been admitted to the hospital as per the doctor’s instructions, just for safety measures. Ever since he heard it, Karan was restless and took the first flight back to Mumbai.

The day for which

Karan and Samiksha had waited for 9 months and had finally arrived.

As he reached the hospital, he rushed to the required floor.
“Mom, how is she? Did the doctor say anything?” Karan was worried about Samiksha.
“Relax, Karan. She is in the best hands. You know Dr. Angel. She has made sure our Samiksha is relaxed and safe. Don’t worry. The good news will be out anytime,” Rose told her son.
He hugged her and Maria.
“Don’t worry, Aunty, Sami will be fine,” Karan told Maria.
“My dear, I am not at all worried for her. She is fine. You relax. We two have seen how you have treasured my Miksha in these past months,” Maria proudly told Karan.

“Karan, you have been the most caring husband I have ever seen. Don’t worry, Sammu is absolutely fine.” Jummy hugged him, pacifying his disturbed mind.

Finally, Dr.Angel appeared from the Operation Theatre. And Karan ran to her.

“How is my Samiksha?”

“Relax, Karan. And triple congratulations to you, Rose, and Maria.” Angel looked at the woman and said.
They were eager to hear the good news.
“Samiksha has delivered two babies already, and one is coming. It’s a miracle that she had such a safe and almost painless delivery. I believe, when you have an extraordinarily caring husband, these miracles do occur,” she informed them all.

Karan’s eyes overflowed with tears of happiness. He thanked God and Dr.Angel.
“Doctor, please. I want to be with her. I can get this permission, right?” Karan requested Angel.

“Well, it is possible. Um. Come here,” Angel took him with her.
“Mom, I . . .”
“Go, dear. Be with her,” Rose told Karan.

Karan was thoroughly sanitised

and given a sterilised uniform to wear in the OPD. After completing the formalities, he was ready to go in.
When he entered the OPD, he was in tears to see his Samiksha bearing the pain on the Operation table. Even after Angel had assured Karan of her well-being, he was worried like hell for her.

The moment he saw her face, he went near her. As she was conscious, Samiksha was also relieved to see her husband next to her at this crucial time of her life. They communicated with eyes, as usual, and each conveyed to the other the same message,
‘I am there for you’.
