If there is mutual respect between two married people, there is nothing more beautiful than this. But if not, there is nothing uglier than this. I have seen many examples of such married couples.
Sadly, those who have been married for many years hardly have any mutual regard. One such event where this respect and care is highly needed is when there is an in-house function. The leading hostess for the function is the lady of that house by default. In the morning, she starts cleaning, dusting, etc.
She makes sure
Everything is in place to make her home look neat and organised. While washing clothes, she starts preparing for lunch. Making lunch for extra people obviously requires more effort than usual. Besides these chores, she steals a moment and looks at herself in the mirror, ensuring she is presentable. She is on her toes for the upcoming function.
As the function starts,
She ensures everyone is attended to, fed well, and feels at home. After a busy, hectic schedule, her energy levels drop slowly as the day passes. All she needs is a kind gesture or word from someone. She obviously prefers her husband or children for this.
A glass of water offered by her husband will make her fatigue vanish in seconds. But this doesn’t happen. The husband is busy favouring everyone around except his wife. Sad but true. He needs to give a hug to his thriving wife. By this, she will attain a new zeal to pull on the day’s remaining hours. But it doesn’t happen. Society’s norms and the presence of others prevent him from doing so. In fact, at times, he doesn’t even feel like doing it.
Why?
I fail to understand it. When you marry her with proper rituals, she is your first and foremost responsibility. Her welfare should be your topmost priority. But she falls last on his list of concerned/ important people. The right with which he asks her to cook and care for his and his family’s needs vanishes regarding her emotional well-being. He finds it difficult or unnecessary to ask her, “Did you have your food?”
Sadly, so many people take women for granted. I have seen women standing for hours during family functions. Unfortunately, they do it with glory. The less they complain, the more respect (so-called) they get. They feel they have executed their duties rightfully. But have others done that for you?

Trust me,
It doesn’t bother her at all. She gets used to standing for hours and slogging alone so much that it becomes her lifestyle. How many of you have seen the lady of the house being offered water or told to rest for some time? Sadly, I haven’t. I fail to understand why caring for someone has not been encouraged since childhood. When these habits are instilled in petite boys, they might carry these till adulthood. Probably then they won’t feel ashamed to offer a glass of water to their mother, sister, friend or wife in the presence of others. They might even ask her to sit for a few minutes or hug her, rejuvenating her for further tasks. A beautiful movie, Mrs. (2024), highlights this issue.
A wife or mother will continue to do her part regarding housework. The question is, are the rest of the people in that house doing their part?
