The Moonchild – 11th Part

Morning came with a touch of joy for Karan. He looked beside him to find an empty pillow. He wondered where his better half, Samiksha, was. Getting up from bed, he put on his morning robe and walked towards the bathroom. Finishing his chores faster than usual, he rushed out of his room towards the breakfast table. Sumitra, Anurag, and his parents were all at the table. But Karan’s eyes searched Samiksha.

“Who are you searching, Karan?” Anurag teased him. Everyone started laughing. Mithila spoke,
“She is coming. She went to visit our garden with Charu.” Charu was their oldest house help. Samiksha entered the room along with Charu. Karan was mesmerized by her fresh look in the morning. Catching a plate with flowers, Samiksha looked divine.

She blushed as she noticed Karan along with others.
“Come, Samiksha. Charu, take this plate inside.” Mithila instructed both and made her daughter-in-law sit comfortably.
“So, what are your plans, Karan?” Hemant Sen asked him.
“Regarding?”
“Look at your son, Mithila. He did not get my question.”
Mithila giggled and answered, “Where would you two like to go for your honeymoon?”

Samiksha got embarrassed and tried to get up.

Sumitra caught her hand and made her sit again. “Sami ja, we all are family here. Don’t feel shy.”
“Well, whatever Samiksha says.”
“Tell Samiksha.” Hemant Sen asked her.
“I wish to see Howrah Bridge.” A smile appeared on all the faces there.
“Samiksha, that is near to our home. You can go there anytime. But which place do you wish to go to for your honeymoon beta? Um Paris? Switzerland?” Mithila asked her lovingly.
Samiksha was at a loss for words. She had not expected such distant places, definitely not out of India.

“Let him decide.” She looked at Karan.
“Hmm. That is a good idea. What say Karan?” Anurag quickly spoke.
“I will let you know tomorrow,” Karan replied to his father.

“Well then.

take Samiksha to Howrah Bridge. ” Probably next week. You might want to catch up with your work now,” Hemant instructed his son. Karan nodded his head, and the breakfast ended on a happy note. As the marriage rituals ended, everyone returned to their routine lives. Anurag joined his clinic, and Karan resumed his duties as a lawyer. Karan took Samiksha to the Howrah Bridge in the evening the following week. She was amused by the view as she dreamed of visiting the place at least once.

“You are so naive, Samiksha. I mean, it is so easy to make you happy. How can you become so happy by such small things?” Karan asked Samiksha, who was leaning against him.
“I don’t know. Since I was small, I never asked or wished for big things. Maybe losing my parents at a young age made me wish for others’ happiness more than mine. When I see others happy and smiling, I smile automatically.” Karan observed his wife proudly. Suddenly, he noticed the moon above.
“Now, if I show you something which will make you truly happy, what will you give me?”
Samiksha got excited like a child.

“Is it so? Then whatever you say. Show me quick.”

He closed her eyes and turned her towards the direction of the moon. Slowly, he opened her eyes.
“Look. who has come to see you.”
Samiksha shouted, “Bandhu!” She hugged Karan happily. “How are you, Bandhu? I missed you so, so much. Did you miss me?” The movement of the clouds gave her the answer.
“Well. He is asking me, am I happy?” Samiksha said to Karan.
“What did you reply?”
“I didn’t. He got the reply from my smiling, happy face.”
“So you both have a strong connection then. I will have to learn this mute conversation skill from you two.”
“Hmm. I am sure you will.”

“You said you will give me whatever I ask if I make you happy,” Karan said teasingly.
“Yes. Tell me. What do you want?” Samiksha asked him innocently.
He leaned closer to her. She pushed him away and ran from there. “I knew it.” Showing her thumb, she ran towards their car. Karan and Samiksha returned home.
