May I Go To Play?

In a society garden, on a tree bark,
A chick asked its mother, full of spark.
Mommy, Mommy, it’s a beautiful day.
With my friends, may I go to play?

I can see the lovely weather.
Seeing your excitement, I don’t wish to stop you either.
But beware, a splash of colourful water may fall on you suddenly.
Drench you in dark colours, and damage your skin eventually.

The chick was sad but listened to his mother.

At once, it ran inside its nest,
It closed its eyes and slept on a soft feather.

After a few months, another chick asked its mom,
Mommy, Mommy, it’s a beautiful day.
With my friends, may I go to play?

But its mother warned,
Beware, son, loud crackers are bursting outside.
They might turn you deaf.
And make you frightful forever, inside.

The chick’s heart broke,

But it obeyed its mother.
Lying on its bed, it saw the beautiful autumn weather.

Months passed, yet one more chick asked its mom,
Mommy, Mommy, it’s a beautiful day
With my friends, may I go to play?

The disheartened mother showed its slit wing.
“Now it is healed, but when the sharp thread cut into it,
I screamed and screamed but found no aid.
Next time son, now the sky is full of threads I am afraid.

Now, the chicks don’t ask their moms anymore.
Like their mothers, they too have learnt now.
Mother Nature is not for them to fly and explore.
The nest is our world now, not the skies anymore.
