बचपना करे शिकायत हमेशा से ही समझदारी से,
मुझे समझ चाहिए, तेरी राह हूँ मैं ताकती हर पल हर घड़ी।
जैसे ही समझ आयी, बचपने की आवाज आयी,
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

वो खाली मन, न किसी की फिक्र,
न किसी जिम्मेदारी का ज़िक्र।
बेबाक सी हसी, अल्हड़ कारनामे,
ख्वाहिशें थी तब छोटी सी, न की बड़ी बड़ी।
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

वो ज़रा ज़रा सी बातों पर रूठ जाना,

पलक झपकते ही मान भी जाना।
प्यार से गले लग जाते थे तब,
अहंकार के कारण न रहती थी कोई बात अड़ी।
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

बचपन न ज़्यादा सोचता, न ही तर्क वितर्क में वक़्त गवाता ,
गले लगने के लिए प्यार ही तब काफी होता।
क्यूँ, कैसे, कब के चक्कर में कभी न अक्ल तब पड़ी।
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

एक खिलौना मांगने पर दे दे बचपना दो तीन।
समझ काफ़ी समझदार होती है।
एक को भी छुपाकर, अनजान बनकर कहे,
तू ही दे दे, मेरा तो ले लिया किसीने छीन।
समझ होती है ऐसे ही स्वार्थ और षड़यंत्र से जकड़ी।
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

बचपन में माता और पिता थे पूरी दुनिया अपनी।

उनका कहना मानना और आदर करना थी दिनचर्या हमारी।
गलती करने पर कान पकड़ लेते थे,
गलती मानने से कभी भी खुद को छोटा नहीं समझते थे।
समझ आयी तो यारों दोस्तों ने उंगली पकड़ी।
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

दोस्तों ने समझाया, क्या बचपने में जी रहे हो?
समझदार हो गए हो, अब तो ये घोंसला छोड़ो।
समझदारी के पंख लगे तो ऊंचा उड़ने का मन भी करने लगा।
सिर्फ आकाश दिखने लगा, न माँ बाप, न कोई सगा।
अचानक लगने लगी वो बचपन की छोटी सी दुनिया जैसे पैरों में बेड़ी।
पर बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

ज़माने ने ठोकर मारी तो आयी माता पिता की सबसे पहले याद।
मेरी बदतमीज़ियों पर कभी न की जिन्होनें फ़रियाद।
बचपना सही गलत में फरक नहीं कर पाया।
पर समझदारी ने इंसानों को परखना सिखाया।
फिर भी दिल कहता, क्यूँ इस समझ ने मेरी उंगली पकड़ी?
बचपना ही ठीक था,
ये समझ बड़ी महंगी पड़ी।

उम्र हो कोई भी, नायाब बचपने को रखना है मुझे अब हमेशा संभालकर।
ये अहंकार को पनपने नहीं देता, सर झुकाने को शर्मिंदगी नहीं कहता।
माँ की गोद में रखने देता है सर बिना हिचकिचाहट के,
पिता से मदद माँगता है बिना शर्म या झिझक के।
बचपने में होता है मासूम प्यार, समझ में गुरूर और हेकड़ी।
इसीलिए कहती हूँ, बचपना ही ठीक था,
