Her Abductor – 8th Chapter

After dinner, lying on the bed, Samiksha eyed the antique ceiling. She revisited every moment spent with the simple smiling boy she met two years ago at the Forno Beach. His sweet words at the shop that evening kept haunting her repeatedly.

If I had given my name and number to him, would it have stopped him from becoming what he is today? Why did his mother say these words? Had he fallen in love with me?

Samiksha got up from the bed at once.
“What am I thinking? And why? What happened that made him so ruthless and cold? But why am I thinking this? He has abducted me. And such stupid questions are bothering me. Should I ask Sandra again? I wish I could go back two years ago and give my number to him. Then we would have been in touch. He might have shared his problems with me. Maybe I would have stopped him from becoming a ruthless abductor then.”

Samiksha pushed her blanket away.

She went near the window and opened the doors. A cool breeze touched her face at once. The moonlight shone bright through the window. She looked at the moon and rubbed her palms on the sides of her upper arms. As she was about to turn, she heard some smashing noises. She turned her neck towards the direction of that noise. Someone was punching on the boxing bag. After rubbing her eyes, she saw a man punching hard on the boxing bag. It was none other than Karan.

She felt an irresistible urge to go to him. Ask for his well-being. Calm him down. Make him smile once again. As she started walking, her mind spoke aloud,
“What are you doing, Samiksha? Turning soft towards your abductor? Leave this alone. Your priority is getting out of here, to your family and fiance. Stay out of it.”

But her conscience refused to listen to these words. Blaming herself for this state of Karan, she at once went near the door and tried to open the knob. To her shock, it opened. She unlocked the door slowly and peeped out. The guards were in their place as usual. She wondered if they would stop her if she tried to leave the room. Giving it a chance, she stepped out. Looking at the guards outside, she started taking small steps.

Suddenly she started to run.

A guard blocked her with his hand.
“Ma’am, you can take a walk around. Even go outside. But please don’t try to run. We won’t allow that.”
She held her head high and started walking with an attitude as they addressed her, “Ma’am.” However, several doors confused her about which one led outside the villa.

One of the guards pointed at the main exit door. She at once went near it and looked back again at the guards. Finally, she stepped out of the main door. At a distance, she saw Karan resting his hand on the boxing bag, breathing heavily after the workout. More than a workout, it looked like a frustration removal session to her. She slowly walked towards him.

Surprisingly,

None of his bodyguards stopped her. As she went near him, they took some steps back and went quite far from the venue.

“Yes? What is it?” Karan questioned her with his back to her.
She looked around to see if a Television showed him a live display of the surroundings.
“Any problem?” He turned towards her. His face brought back memories, and she couldn’t take her eyes off him. The sweat on his face and beard glistened in the moonlight. His frown was as usual. Wiping his sweat with his sweatband, he again asked her.
“Is everything fine?”

“It is so surprising that you take so much care of all those you abduct, isn’t it?”
“It is but obvious. These people are ultimately my responsibility. What is so surprising?”
“How come your bodyguards did not stop me from coming near you?”
“Would you harm me?”

Before Samiksha could answer,

he spoke sarcastically,
“They know you won’t. So …” He shrugged his shoulders.
“I can harm you, OK? After what you have done to me.” Karan took a step towards her.
“How?”
“What?”
“How will you harm me? Show it.” He took a few more steps towards her. Now, she could clearly hear his rough breathing. She took two steps back.

“See, I don’t harm anyone who is brought here. After the task, they return safely to their homes.”
“Hmm. I know you won’t harm anyone. A music lover at heart actually can’t harm anyone.”
“What?”
“Nothing.” As Samiksha was about to walk away, he grabbed her hand by the wrist and questioned her.
“What did you say now?”
“You said you don’t hurt anyone. You are hurting my wrist.” She raised her hand up near his face. He left her hand at once.

A smile gradually appeared on her lips. Somehow, she was sure that deep inside he was still the same as he had been two years ago. He has masked his true self with this rough, cold persona. She said to herself,

If I am the cause of what you are today, I promise to revive the same Karan I met two years ago.
