Samiksha’s heartbeats raced as she awaited the mastermind behind her present condition. She paced from one end to the other, her footsteps loud and clear in the vast room. The opening sound of the knob of the door halted her pace and she gave a fiery look towards the door as it opened slowly.
But her expression changed as the entrant was none other than the woman who served her food.
“Where is your master? Can’t he come here and face me?”
“Calm down. I have come to take you to him. He wants to meet you.”
“Fine. Come, I am ready to go with you. But wait. He has abducted me, right? So, he needs me for some reason. Tell him to come here if he wants to talk to me.”
“Why are you troubling yourself like this girl? Don’t you wish to know why you were brought here?”
“I do.”
“Then why are you acting so reluctant? Please come with me.”
“I won’t. He is responsible for my present condition. Because of him, I am yearning for my family, fiance, and freedom. I won’t leave this room. What if he harms me? I don’t trust anyone here.”
“Not even me?”
Samiksha withheld her reply. She knew somewhere in her mind that this woman had cared for her since she was brought here.
“You do, and I know that. Believe me, no one will harm you here. A man came into your room some time ago. He asked you to close the doors of that window. Did he even try to touch you?”
Samiksha turned her face in the opposite direction.
“Answer my question.”
“No, he didn’t.”
“Then you can expect the same treatment even from my master. Can we go now?”
Samiksha crossed her hands across her chest. Her body language showed clear signs of adamancy and anger.
“I am elder to you. Maybe of your mother’s age. I know you are not in a position to listen. But sometimes we push away chances because of foolish vices like anger, stubbornness and impulsive decisions. You meet him once. Maybe you will get all the answers you are looking for.”
Samiksha stared at her.
Somehow, her gut feeling said, ‘Trust her.’ The woman looked at her blankly and coldly for a response.
“What is your name?”
“Sandra. Now, can we go?”
“You replied at once. I did not question why I was asking your name.”
“I don’t question much. Neither do I think very deeply. It is of no use. We lose our peace of mind in the bargain to know more and more facts and truths. Just lead your life as it comes. Shall we leave? Or else I will continue my endless talk.”
Samiksha started walking towards the door with her. This was the first time she had stepped out since arriving there. Unknowingly, she looked around and noticed the interiors of the beautiful mansion.
The staircase was decorated with artificial flowers, which appeared natural due to their vibrant colours and beauty. The anger within her was mixed with the anxiety she experienced seeing the ancient touch of the villa. The conflict of pain she was going through in contrast to the anticipation of seeing the mansion yet more and more was no doubt visible on her face. However, she felt disgusted with the anxiety she sensed from the mesmerising view of the mansion.
They walked along
several rooms to reach a visually eye-pleasing chamber. Sandra directed her to go inside. She was about to leave when Samiksha caught her by hand.
“Wait. I want you to come along with me.”
“Why?”
“I shall feel safe then.”
“I told you already, your virtue is truly safe here. Go ahead. We are already late. He hates waiting.”
Noticing the displeasure on Samiksha’s face, she immediately added
“We all do, right? Now go. I will meet you here in fifteen minutes and return to your room.”
“Fifteen minutes?”
“Yes. He said so. He stands by his word. So see you in fifteen minutes.”
Without a word, she left, leaving Samiksha all alone near the huge door. Samiksha looked sideways but found no one. Her immediate impulse was to run and get out of there. But by now, she knew very well it was next to impossible. Giving in to the longing to move out, she slowly opened the door and entered. The tinkling sound of the wind chimes placed at several places caught her ear. She moved ahead and noticed a way to the balcony.
As with the other parts of the mansion, this room also had spectacular interiors. The light pink marble flooring, pastel shades of the walls, and hustling sound of emerald green curtains increased Samiksha’s anticipation further.
She caught sight of a tall man standing on the balcony. His back towards her, he was busy talking to someone on the phone.
Samiksha’s mind murmured,
“This must be the cruel master.” She stood there while he was talking on the phone. He moved his hand backwards and gestured for her to sit on the couch. She was bewildered, as there was no mirror in front of him. Then how did he know about her arrival? How did he confidently gesture for her to sit on the couch, knowing where she was standing?
‘Why do I care? He must be kidnapping people and calling them into his den in the same manner. So he knows very well where one might stand.
“Excuse me.”
Finally, Samiksha uttered as she was unwilling to wait any longer.
He kept his phone in his pocket and turned around.
