The audience cheered the girls’ team with all their might. The football match between St. Carols College and Lords’ Angels College was tough. The principals of both colleges were glued to their seats to see the outcome. This Semifinal match between the girls’ teams was much awaited by the collegians for quite a time.
The audience was full of fiery discussion of which team would win and advance to the finals. Two of them were discussing the winning team religiously.
“I can bid any damn thing on this dude. St. Carols is the clear winner”, the first boy said.
“Excuse me. There’s no second opinion on Lord’s winning”, replied the second girl.
“Come on. St. Carol’s is doing so well. Just look at the girls. They are on fire.”
“But Lords has fire itself in their team, my dear.”
On a curious glance, the girl said,
“Does St. Carols have a match to the Lord’s Captain?”
There was no answer from the other side.
“Are you new to this college?”
“Um. Yes.”
“Now I get it. So I was talking about the Captain of Lords College. Look.”
She pointed to a girl.

In the Lord’s Angels team, there was a carefree girl. She was not only the Captain of the team but also the one with a ‘Do Or Die’ spirit. This was visible from how she played, fearlessly, with no inhibitions.
“Who is she?” asked the boy with curiosity.
“Samiksha Varma.
Captain of the girl’s team of Lords’ Angels College. Dude, no one can match her fighting spirit. Focus on her game, and you will agree.”
“Hmm. Tell me more about her.”
“Why?” She fluttered her eyelids and asked.
“For but obvious reasons. I mean, look at her; she definitely has an X factor. Come on, tell me. I am new here, so I barely know anyone. I want to know everything about her.”
“Seems she is your kind of girl, ha. But you never know,” she giggled, leaving him more curious.
“She is the only daughter of her father, a wealthy man. But beware of her temper. She can burn you alive if she loses it,” said the girl, Jolly Nivetia, also Samiksha’s close buddy.
“Interesting. A fighter with a beauty, I must say,” said the boy Raj Sinha, with a smile.
As the match neared its end, the audience had their hearts in their mouths. They were cheering for their choice of team. Finally, the Lords’ Angels needed one point to win. Samiksha guided her teammates and allotted positions to them on the field. The opponent team was ready to defeat the Lords happily.
But Samiksha’s teammate made the final move, and they scored the much-needed point. Lords’ Angels won. The girl’s gang jumped in joy and hugged their captain. Raj clapped hard and cheered for the team, especially Samiksha.
Samiksha hugged all her family members, and everyone congratulated them on reaching the finals. Jolly joined them, too.
“Congrats, Captain,” the Principal of the Lord’s Angels College, Mr. Shyam Arora, congratulated her.
“Thanks, sir,” Samiksha said with a radiant smile. She was about to leave when Raj approached her.
“Congrats, Sam”.
Samiksha eyed the stranger. Raising her eyebrow, she moved away from there.
He tried to stop her by placing his hand in between and smiled.
“I am Raj. You are a bomb.”
“How was the match?”
“Pardon me.”
“How was the match?”
“Too good. Your move.”
“The match is over.” She shrugged and left from there with her teammates.
“Your moves were excellent, Sam”.
Jolly was next to Sam, and her heart started racing as she was worried about Raj.
Samiksha turned back and walked towards Raj. After briefly making eye contact, she was about to punch him in the nose.
“Samiksha, please let us leave,” Jolly caught her hand and persuaded her.
“And Raj, I thought you were sensible,” said Jolly.
“Cool. That I am. But your friend.”
Jolly dragged Samiksha, and they left from there.
“I just hate this kind of people. Does he know me? Who is he?”
“Stop boiling your blood now. He was in the audience. I guess he liked your game a lot, ha, ” Jolly burst into laughter, infuriating Samiksha even more.
The team celebrated their success with zeal and pomp.
After returning home, Samiksha ran towards her aunt Madhu and gave her a tight hug.

Madhu
was her mother’s sister. She had raised Samiksha after her mom passed away at the tender age of 5 years. Madhu insisted that she would take care of Samiksha after her sister’s death. Nevertheless, Madhu shouldered this responsibility with the utmost honesty. Samiksha’s father, Mahesh Varma, was a millionaire. He had drowned himself in his business to build a good fortune for her. Even though he could not see Samiksha’s journey from a child to a beautiful grown-up girl, she was very close to him. Ideally, she looked up to him as her idol and loved him a lot. She worshipped her father and loved him a lot.
“Congo, my darling,” Madhu told her dear Samiksha.
“You got the news? Who told you? I will kill this Jolly one day,” Samiksha burst out and ran towards her room to freshen up.
“Come soon. Your favourite gulab jamuns are waiting for you,” Madhu informed her while arranging lunch.
Samiksha savoured her favourite food, and Madhu adored her darling.
“Sweetheart. This is the fourth and last OK. Sportswomen have to sacrifice many things, and their favourite foods are one of them.
“Mum, please. I will exercise extra tomorrow, I promise. You have made these after so long. Only one . . . ? You know I love football, but food is my weakness.”
Madhu smiled and fed her one more,
“That’s it.” Saying this, she took the bowl inside the kitchen.
“So, how was your semi-final match?”
Samiksha was lying on Madhu’s lap, relaxing after lunch.
“Hope my daughter’s head was cool throughout?” Madhu asked this, knowing her hot temper.
“Yes, mum. An idiot was about to ruin my day, though.” Samiksha blew the hairs on her forehead and told her aunt.
“Who ruined your moo,d baby?”
“A guy from our college. Was trying to befriend me. I hate people getting close without any purpose. And moreover.”
“He was just trying to make you his friend, Sami. It’s ok. We can allow people to enter our lives. But who deserves to continue staying in it is up to us, right? Focus on the good thing that happened; your team won, baby. So, when is the final?”
Madhu knew Samiksha’s temperament, so she usually avoided stretching the discussion of such incidents.
“It’s next week. Hope Dad comes early tonight. Wanna tell this news to him?”
“I will tell him to come early, alright. Now, you take some rest.”
Samiksha nodded and hugged her aunt tight.
Madhu patted her head and left.
Towards the end of the day, Samiksha eagerly awaited her father. Despite being sleepy and tired, she waited for him. But after some time, she fell asleep on the couch.
Madhu came there and slowly sat beside her, ensuring she wasn’t disturbed. She glanced at her sleeping beauty, slowly swiping a hair from her face. Madhu closed her eyes and prayed to the Almighty,
‘God,
I am not her mother, but my day doesn’t start until I see her face. I don’t remember going to bed without seeing her smile. Please keep my daughter safe and smiling always. She is the reason for my existence. I cannot imagine my life without her. Please give her every happiness that her heart asks for. She is pampered and reacts without thinking, but her heart is pure. I wish she meets someone in her life with the same purity and a deep love for her. He should be mature enough to handle her childish heart and gentle enough to calm her when she loses her cool. Amen’
