The Moonchild – 12th Part

Karan and Samiksha went to Switzerland for their honeymoon. It was a dream holiday for both of them. Rather than sight-seeing, each spent time understanding what the other felt. This trip held a special place in the hearts of both of them. They knew each other better now. Apart from this, the small joys of roaming hand-in-hand and reading books made the trip memorable.

When they returned to Kolkata, they felt as if they had known each other for ages. It was a good phase in Samiksha’s life. On coming back, Samiksha asked Sumitra to familiarize her with everything and everyone in the house and the surroundings. As soon as she was back, Samiksha talked to her uncle, aunt, grandpa, and Kalyani. Listening to the excitement in her voice, they were quite sure their Samiksha was in the right home with the right people.

One of the Sundays, Karan showed her their family album.

He showed her his childhood memories, including the marriage pictures of his parents and Anurag and Sumitra. Samiksha was happy to see her new family’s history. He told her how the house was traditional before and then renovated to match the current lifestyle.

“You don’t have a sister. Don’t you feel something missing? I asked because Kalyani and I used to have a blast. Anurag Da is there, but with a sister, brothers become more caring and responsible. I have seen this in my college. How protective the boys were about their sisters.” Looking towards him, she realised he was looking at his phone.

“Karan.” She tapped him on his shoulder. “What happened?”

“Nothing. You are right. I also feel a girl brings innumerable joys to the home. My best friend Shyam often talks about his sister. She ties rakhi to me every Raksha Bandhan.” Karan smiled and replied to her.
“That is so sweet of her. Please take me to meet them sometimes.” She demanded at once.
“I will,” Karan promised. “As of now, let me finish some paperwork. Two cases are lined up starting tomorrow.”
“But I haven’t seen these two albums.”
“Later, OK, my darling,” Karan said, and Samiksha made a grumpy face.

“Alright,

My lawyer. I will go and help Ma in the kitchen now.”
When she came to the kitchen, she found Mithila had gone out. Charu and the other maid were busy cooking for lunch.
“Baudi (daughter-in-law),” Charu called her lovingly.
“Yes, Charu.” Samiksha hugged her from behind.
“You are so warm. What do you want? Tell us.”

“I don’t want anything. You tell me, how should I help you?”

Charu smiled at the other maid. “I told you she is very kind and considerate.”
The other maid Mini replied, “Truly. Tumi khuba misti.” (You are very sweet.)
Samiksha smiled and said, “Then allow me to help you.” They agreed, as it was Samiksha’s heartfelt request.
Afternoon lunch was done, and the all-awaited sweet dish was served. Delicious chomchoms were served, and Anurag at once said, “Samiksha made them, right?”
“Yes Da,” Charu said. “Baudi is very kind and helpful.
Hemant Sen smiled at Samiksha and patted her head.

The new week started. Hemant Sen, Karan and Anurag had left for their work. Samiksha was at her dressing table, grooming herself. She fondly remembered the moments of her marriage and those spent here in Kolkata.

After lunch,

She thought of seeing the photo albums again, but she could not remember where Karan had got them. She called Charu and asked her. Charu replied at once, “They are kept in the library, Baudi. I shall get them.”
“I also will come along,” Samiksha told her.
They proceeded towards the library. Charu opened a cabinet and started searching for the albums. Meanwhile, Samiksha thought of exploring the beautiful library. She was always fascinated with reading, and the library’s set-up motivated her instinct at once.

She opened the cabinets one by one to discover various books inside them. “Hmm, I should come here often. Um, but wait. What is this?” she spoke to herself. In between the books, she noticed a photo album behind them. She carefully removed it. Dusting it, she showed it to Charu. “See, I found one album behind the books there. Why is it not with other ones?” But Charu’s face turned pale white when she saw the album.
