Part 7 – Her Heart Therapist

“How is my princess?” Mahesh asked Samiksha, caressing her hair.
“Good Dad. I missed you,” Samiksha hugged her father, and Madhu was teary-eyed during the emotional meeting of the father-daughter duo.
Karan interrupted the chat after some time.
“Dad, meet Karan. I mean Dr. Jaiswal. He is a very, very good doctor. Not only that, he goes out of the way to help his patients. He is just around 30, but look at his achievements. It’s not only on a professional basis. The love and regard his patients have for him is just too deep, touching and exceptional.”

Her speech was interrupted by the fact

that Mahesh, Madhu and Karan were staring at her.
“Did I say something overboard? I mean, I intended to introduce my doctor to you, Dad.”
“Of course, yes. And I do agree with what you said. He has a certain charm, for sure. He made me speechless just a few minutes ago. Right, doctor?”
“If I crossed my limits, I apologise, sir. I was trying to figure out my hospital’s shortcomings and what made you think to shift her from here.”

Samiksha was stunned at his words.
“Dad? Is this true?”
“Relax. He was worried for his daughter’s well-being. That’s all. He would expect his princess to be in the best hands as a father. His concern is justified. I hope you are convinced now, Mr. Mahesh?”
“Yes, he is,” Samiksha answered for Mahesh.
“I definitely am. Baby, take some rest now. Will go home and freshen up. Can Madhu accompany me? Or do you need her?”

“No, Dad. Take mum with you. Let her sleep peacefully today. I will be fine. As Jolly is coming, you both go home and relax.”
“Alright. Bye, sweetheart. Bye, Doctor.”
Samiksha hugged her father, and Karan saw her cute gesture and smiled at the corner of his lips.
As Mahesh was about to leave, he turned back and said,
“Why is the fire flickering today? Surprisingly, I can see a brand new, softer version of my kid. Madhu, do you agree with me?”
Smiling, Madhu replied,
“I cannot agree more on anything else. We do get influenced by the behaviour of people around us. Right, Sami?”
Samiksha was smiling, with a list of questions in her head.
Have I really mellowed down? Did I change? If yes, why?

“Hmm.

Flickering of fire and all ha. What was this about?”
“Dad was the best person to ask this. Now he has already left.”
Shrugging her shoulders, Samiksha answered Karan.

It was the fifth day after the surgery. Madhu had left for home, and Jolly was lying in bed next to Samiksha.
Around 12 at night, Samiksha suddenly felt an excruciating pain in the plastered foot. She turned to call Jolly, only to find her fast asleep. The exhaustion Jolly faced while handling her studies and being a caretaker for Samiksha had taken a toll on her health. She was exhausted. Samiksha did not feel like waking her up and looked around for the alarm switch. After she hit it, after around 2 minutes, Dr. Karan stepped in.

As he entered,

Samiksha gestured for him to be quiet, pointing at Jolly, who was deep asleep.
“What happened?” Karan whispered to her.
“My foot is hurting. It troubled me at one point. I can’t move.”
“Relax. Let me see. Don’t worry.”
Karan checked the operated foot and tried to figure out the reason. He asked her some questions and concluded,
“Don’t worry. Likewise, a certain move might have caused foot strain and pain. I am giving you medicine. It will help you.”

He gave her the tablet, and Samiksha requested,
“Can you sit here for some time?”
“Yes, sure,” Karan replied after pondering over his schedule. “Tell me.”
“Who else is there in your family?”
“Hmm. My mother and grandmother. That is all. We are a trio bonded by love and affection.”
“That is so sweet. I would like to meet them someday.”

“Sure.

We will work it out.”
“And, mind if I ask if you are in a relationship?”
“Oh yes, I am.”
Samiksha’s heartbeat skipped a beat for a second and returned to normal after he said,
“With my profession,” this Karan giggled, and Samiksha realised she was in love with these sweet giggles.
“Oh, I see. So your is heart free?”
“No, it is costly. Very costly.”
“What?” they both giggled, catching the humour in the line.

“I don’t intend to

fall in love, you know. I don’t have time for it.”
“You never fall in love with an intention. It just happens. How can you have a say in it?”
“I know. Consciousl,y I will never. It comes with a lot of baggage. Expectations, heartbreaks, claims, blame. Don’t want to fall into that trap.”
Samiksha was displeased by the confession he had just made, unaware of its cause.
“What about you? Boys must be after you in the college, the fabulous footballer you are. I won’t be surprised to know if you have a bf, the raw, innocent beauty you own, and the pure soul you possess.”

“Of course, I do have. Very caring and mature. Um. Helpful, kind, tall, handsome.”
“Enough. Control. Furthermore, praising a guy in front of another is not cool. Not done.”
“Because?”
“Because what? You should not do it. That is it.”

Samiksha sensed a discrete pang of jealousy in Karan’s tone, and was proud that she hit the right spot.
YEAH!, screamed Samiksha aloud in her mind.

“Well,

It’s late and you should rest now. Good night and sweet dreams.”

Before leaving the room, he stopped at once.
“What is your boyfriend’s name, by the way? And how come he didn’t turn up after you had an accident? Doesn’t he care for you?”

Samiksha gave him a broad grin and replied with a newly acquired calm,
“He does care, Karan. With whom do you think I chat the whole day on my mobile? Of course with him.”
And she successfully drove an invisible sharp knife of envy into his heart. It was visible on his face, but it was crystal clear.
“Alright. As your doctor, I suggest using your mobile phone only in an emergency.”
“Or else?”
“I will take it and keep it in my custody. You understand?”
“Very well, doctor. Until then, I want to chat with my soulmate. May I?”

Karan gave her one cold look before he finally left. Samiksha had a broad grin on her lips after discovering a new, hidden side of Karan Jaiswal. If jealousy had a face, it would be Karan’s at the moment.
