Part 12 – Her Heart Therapist

Certainly, Madhu left no stone unturned in pampering Samiksha after her return from the hospital. She attended to her minutest need.
“I missed you so much, my baby. Don’t ever leave me like this.”
“No mum, I won’t but . . .”
“But?”
“If someone takes me away, forever, I mean, with love and care.”
Nevertheless, Madhu caught her meaning and correspondingly asked,
“Who is the lucky man? Why am I not aware of this? Does Jolly know? Is he from your college? Is he the one who was impressed in the football match?”
Samiksha was bombarded with a series of questions.

In her subconscious mind, Madhu unknowingly prayed to all the Gods that he should be Karan. ‘

“Mum. Let me breathe.

First of all, I am lucky that we met.”
“Hmm. That means you have met the right guy.”
“Why so?”
“It’s but obvious. If a man feels lucky in a relationship, that is not a big surprise for me, at least. All girls are angels. But if a girl feels she is lucky, it means the man possesses celestial qualities. I am eager to know.”
Instantly, Madhu stopped and collected a series of incidents that flashed before her eyes.
Care, affection, concern, responsibility, and vulnerability were recently seen only in one man in the past few days.
Karan Jaiswal.

“Sami, Karan loves you?” she asked without blinking her eye.
“Mum!”
For obvious reasons, Samiksha had turned red, revealing all the secrets and hugged Madhu tight and warm.
“I am not surprised, I can say. His concern for you was something above a doctor’s care for his patients. He is a gem, Samiksha. I could not have asked for a better partner for you.”
With Samiksha just a few weeks away from graduating, Madhu wished to focus on her future plans.

“After your graduation,

I want you to focus on your career too, darling. A person must be financially independent. Am I thinking too much and too fast?”
“Yes.”
Samiksha laughed and hid her head in Madhu’s lap.
“Moms are moms. I understand your concern. I love you, Mum.”

Samiksha’s final exam was approaching. Her foot had almost healed, but football playing was on hold. Her team was given a new captain, which definitely upset Samiksha. But she was at peace in terms of the recent turns her life had taken. She was thankful for the blessing of love bestowed upon her and for the pacification Karan had brought about in her.

The intercom ring interrupted Dr. Karan’s reading of a particular file.
“Yes”
“Sir, your patient wants to meet you. For follow up.”
“Name?”
There was a silence at first on the other end.
“Sasha.”
“Sasha? I don’t recall a patient with this name. You can send her, but she is for a follow-up, right?”
“Yes, sir.”

The knob of Karan’s door opened

but he was engrossed in studying the file, as he found a strange mention in it.
“Please come in.”
The patient walked in and slowly paced towards him, right next to him. This caught his attention, and he looked up at once.
Samiksha’s angelic smile brought a smile to his face, too.
He saw her after almost two weeks and couldn’t resist pulling her towards him.
“Dr. Karan, there are people outside.
“I know that very well. Have missed you like hell.”

“But we used to talk daily.”
“Hmm. Agree, but the fragrance of your hair,” he brushed off a hair lock on her face. ” The feel of your soft skin,” he traced her cheek with his fingers. And you?” he looked deep into her eyes.
She hugged him, and both lovers were lost in each other’s existence for a while.
“Let me check you. How is your foot?”
“Certainly fine doctor. Since I was under the supervision of an expert.”
She smiled, and his heart overflowed with joy.

“Please let me check.”

She obeyed him and climbed on his observation bed. But her playfulness continued, and she took his stethoscope and whispered,
“I love you a lot, Dr. Karan.”
He smiled and murmured to her in his ears slowly,
“I know that.”

He smiled and checked her foot. She got off the bed when he was sure that all was well.
“Am going to home for lunch. You are coming with me.”
“Now? But I haven’t informed Mum about this.”
“Aunty? Don’t worry. I will call her.”
“Ok then,” she jumped from her seat.
“Um, you nervous?”
“Not at all,” announced a confident Samiksha.

They arrived at his home and were welcomed warmly by his mother.
“Seems like my house has finally turned into a home.”
Sheela hugged Samiksha in a warm embrace, and Karan’s grandmother just emerged from her room. Samiksha ran to hug her, and the two met as if they had known each other for ages.
“Just look at them,” Karan told Sheela fondly.

“They are of the same age,

by souls.”
Sheela told Karan and disappeared into the kitchen.
Karan insisted on showing Samiksha his room and swiped her away.
“Come.”
She looked around the room, moving her fingers over his table, chair, and cupboard while Karan observed her sitting on his bed.
“Did you like my room?”
“Our room, you mean, doctor?”
He grinned widely and answered,
“Forgive me for my mistake.”

He pulled her in his embrace, cuddling her with love.

“I look forward to

locking you here permanently, Mrs. Karan.”
“I am ready. Shall I inform Mum about my not returning back?”
“Anytime, sweetheart,” he said. “But you have to focus on your final exam now. Alright. That means our meetings have to be reduced. In fact, I suggest we chat and talk on the phone rather than meeting in person.”
Samiksha kissed him on the cheek. She was a bit upset by his recent declaration.
“I hate staying away from you, but I won’t disobey my doctor.”
He smiled and hid his head in her neck.

“The food is yummy.”
Samiksha licked her fingers and said to Sheela.
“Karan said your exams are nearing. Wish you all the best, dear.”
“Thanks a lot, Aunty.”
Hmm. We would be pleased to meet your aunty soon. What is her name, dear?”
“Madhu Kapoor. And she is my mum, not aunt,” Samiksha smiled.
“But of course.”

The foursome thoroughly enjoyed lunch. Karan had to leave for the hospital, but Samiksha decided to stay for some more time.

Karan was in his clinic the following week when his friend Dr Rajeev came in.
“Rajeev. What a pleasant surprise. So how was your vacation, dude?”
“Great. And what about you? How is life?”
“Blessed,” Karan replied with a smile.
“As expected. I love your attitude, man. Actually, I am in a fix.”
“What is the matter?”
“I ran into an old acquaintance a few days ago. Precisely three days before. The lady is so good and kind. I have known her since I had an independent clinic. She contacted me and wanted to meet. I was shocked to discover she had conceived.”

Karan gave him a strange look.

“What is so unusual about conceiving?”
“Um, actually, she is not married. I am in a fix, Karan. You know I approach you whenever there is conflict. She has requested that I. . .”
“To?”
“Abort the child. No need to mention it’s just five weeks old.”
“Oh. So what is your stand on this?”
“Considering her health and other factors, it would be a risk. But she has requested me earnestly. My respect and regard for her have put me in a fix. She confided in me, stressing that she had no other option.”

Karan thought for some time.
“Why is she keen on aborting the child? I mean if you wish to share only then. After all, it’s a matter of someone’s personal life.”
“Presently, she has only told me this. I don’t know much about her personal life. I am worried about her. Madhu Kapoor, such a nice lady.”
“Pardon me. I mean, what name did you say?”

“Madhu Kapoor.”
