Part 13 – The Lovers

Raindrops and his love had drenched Samiksha while she was returning back. As Samiksha returned, Maria gave her a towel to wipe away the water drops which had wetted her. She probably knew where Samiksha had been, so she quietly entered the room. After a while, Samiksha held her from behind and asked,

“Mom, had your dinner?”

“I was waiting for you, my baby. We shall have it now, okay? How is Karan?”
Samiksha was first taken aback by the confidence with which her mom asked her.
“He is fine, Mom. He loves me a lot.”
“I know I,t Miksha. Certainly, I am not at peace because of the strain in your relationship with him. I had not thought in my dreams that my past would affect your life this way. Presently, let me talk to Rose.”

“Certainly not, Mom. She might say anything that might not be pleasant. If the universe wants, Karan and I will be together forever. I know Mom, it will listen to me, my prayers.”
But Maria had already decided to meet Rose to satisfy the lovers’ wishes.

Karan was comparatively relaxed now after the turmoil of the past few days. He wanted to spend some quality time with his beloved, Samiksha. However, right now, he was trying to check the quality of his mother’s mood.
“Mom, what is for dinner?”
“By and large, how was the meet with your client?” Rose asked without delay.
Accordingly, Karan answered,
“Notably fine, all sorted. Don’t want to miss this deal, Mom, at any cost. It’s very, very precious and.”
“Beautiful?”
“Yes.” The businessman at once realised the trap of his mother’s words.

“Karan,

you know for your happiness I can go to any extent. But this matter is complicated. For the rest of my life, would I like to see the face of a woman who deprived me of the moments with my husband? Will you be able to see your mom go through this suffering?”
He caught his mom by the shoulders gently and made her sit.
“Mom, I agree with every word that you say. But will keeping bitterness in mind be fruitful? Will it make all happy? By and large, I cannot live without Samiksha. Please, don’t take it as a threat or something. It’s just that I love her, and she makes me happy. In the long run, we both will continue to live, but our lives would be devoid of happiness and the will to live. Please think over your decision again, Mom. Sometimes, letting go solves many problems in the present situation, and it’s the most challenging thing to do.
He kissed her on the forehead and left the room.

Karan: Missing me?

Karan texted Samiksha at 1 a.m. in the night. She had just lied down after finishing the daily chores.
Samiksha: Um, no, she replied with a smile.
Karan: Hmm. In that case, bye.
Samiksha: Will you be angry like this about petty things after I become your wife also?
And a broad, smirky smile was back on Karan’s lips. Ultimately, Samiksha knew the key to his smile in the spur of any moment.
Karan: You will get many benefits from becoming my wifey sweetheart.
Samiksha: Stop it.
Karan: What? You don’t like jewellery?
Samiksha: You meant jewellery?

Karan :

What did you assume?
Samiksha: Nothing. You are a cheat. You always manage to trouble me, right?
Karan was smiling at the other end.
Karan: Tell tell. What do you think?
Samiksha : Am sleepy now.
Karan: Get a sound sleep, baby. Listen, when you come tomorrow, can you bring the necklace Mom gave you?
Samiksha: Why? I will get it.
Karan: Just get it, ok? And listen, how is Aunty?
Samiksha: She is in her shell. Moreover, she keeps blaming herself for what happened to us two these days.
Karan: Don’t worry, okay? Things are not pretty good for all four of us right now. But trust me, everything will be fine, baby. Love you.
Samiksha: I love you, too. Good night.
Karan: Sleep tight, baby.

Next morning

Karan had his breakfast. Quickly after a word with his mom, he left for his work. He was eager to meet Samiksha. She had already reached the office. When he entered her cabin, he promptly asked,
“Where is that necklace?”
“Here”, she handed over the box, wondering why he must have told her to get it.
“Wear it”, he persuaded her.
She shrugged and looked at him.
“Baby, I just want to see how it looks on you. After all, it’s my choice. Mom and I shopped for it together. She wanted to give it to her daughter-in-law. When she gifted you this, I wanted to see you wearing it since then. Please wear it.”
She smiled and turned around. Grinning, he took the sparkling piece out of the box and kept the box aside.

Gently, he removed it

Karan answered the call. It was Varsha.
“Sir, you have left your phone in your cabin. Your mom is calling on it.”
“Wait, I am coming there,” he replied, about to leave.
“Karan, please remove it before you go,” Samiksha said, pointing at the piece of jewellery she had worn.
“Karan, who was on the line?” Samiksha asked him.
“Varsha. Mom had called up. I left my phone in the cabin.”

On the other hand, Maria’s call was about Rose’s visit to her place. Not to mention, she had not expected this and rang Karan to ask about it. Maria’s humble attitude and poised nature made Rose take her in.
